The Fourth of July is my very favorite holiday. It used to be tied with Christmas, when Christmas involved getting Claire’s earrings and NSYNC posters, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that there wouldn’t be any Christmases or Hanukkahs or Thanksgivings or National Ice Cream Days if it weren’t for the total freedom we have as Americans. I am constantly in awe of how lucky I am, especially as a woman, to have been born in the United States. I can do and see and say and praise and of course, now love, whatever and whomever I please. Thanks to those genius founders of ours, who created a governing strategy so strong 239 years ago that it still stands and reigns supreme today, as well as all of the men and women in uniform who fight to preserve it, we get to decide what to do with each day we are given. And so on the Fourth of July…I choose to celebrate my American heart out and give thanks to this land I love. And watch as many fireworks shows as humanly possible.
That said…since my bloodline also happens to run back to Siciliy, celebrations must include copious amounts of food and drinks and really loud talking and lots of hand moving. And because I just can’t say no to themed desserts or drinks (Pinterest is an enabler), I have to share some of my favorite festive, patriotic and downright adorable treats from great bloggers around the web.
God Bless the USA, food coloring and fighting for your right to party since 1776:

2) Red, White and Blue Layered Flag Cake via Blahnik Baker
3) Fourth of July Fruit Dessert Tray via MomAdvice
4) Red, White and Blue Sangria via So Munch Love

4th of July is my favorite holiday, too! There aren’t that many of us out there even though sunshine, good food, good friends, and celebrating something I really truly believe in make it kind of an obvious choice to me :-)

Yes! I honestly wish every day were the Fourth of July. Maybe that explains why I still have remnants of my American flag temporary tattoo on my arm. (I swear I’m not trying to wash around it…) I hope you had a great one, Maggie! :)
