Hey there!
Remember me?
Italian girl with big feet, a penchant for barn sales and a knack for spilling food all over the floor on a daily basis?
Ah, I knew you wouldn’t forget me. But yikes…it has been awhile, hasn’t it. And yea, I missed you so much, too! I’m very happy to be back in the blogging world.
Before we start talking about the edamame hummus I’m whirling in my food processor in between sentences or the orders of yarn-wrapped letters I’m working on OR how there is only 47 days until the Justin Timberlake/Jay-Z concert, let me just fill you in on what I’ve been doing while I haven’t been blogging:
Well for starters…we moved into DC!
After what seemed like hundreds of apartment appointments (and by hundreds I mean like seven) and countless hours of packing, crying, packing, eating my feelings, packing and throwing half the things we own in the trash/return pile at Bed Bath and Beyond, we’ve arrived in the District of Columbia. Taxation without representation, suckas.
I, ahem, WE found our new apartment the weekend before the Rock n Roll Marathon in March, and within seconds of entering I knew it was the one. The landlords also knew that I knew it was the one because I could not stop randomly jumping up and down like a six-year old on Christmas morning. “I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT! PLEASE LET ME PAY YOU HALF MY SALARY EVERY MONTH! PLEASEEEE!!!”
Needless to say, they couldn’t resist.
After almost three months here, we are mostly settled (and by mostly I mean I still trip over three boxes of crap that hasn’t found a home each morning when I get out of bed) and really, really loving being smack dab in the mix of things. While we loved our time in Alexandria, there is nothing like walking out your front door and having a whole city – let alone the nation’s capital – within reach.
Our neighborhood, Logan Circle, is absolutely booming. Every time we walk down the street, there is a new restaurant or shop opening. And I’m not exaggerating – I just went for a walk down 14th Street tonight and saw two new signs for upcoming restaurants as well as a brand new bar/lounge filled with people that I had no idea was even in the works. And while having new eateries to try or new shops to “pop tags,” it is not very conducive to saving money. But it is very, very fun.
And since it is all about balance, I am oh so thrilled that we now have an actual gym with actual fitness classes…including Zumba! Yes, yes, get all your laughs out now. But I’m not letting the fact that there is not one inch of a rhythmic bone in my body stop me from mom-dancing my way through Dion’s class every week. And since I’m also taking strength-training classes, laugh at me again and well, I’ll show you what those five-pound dumbbells can do. :)
Dion’s Zumba class has also prepared me for the countless weddings we have this summer, as well various bachelorette parties, birthday outings, get-togethers and my Bonaventure five-year reunion, which was a few weeks ago. While I’d like to believe that the OP dance floor benefitted from my new moves, it was my spontaneous Zumba session in the Quad that stole the show. What can I say, when you hear Shakira…these hips don’t lie. (I also need to do a separate post on the SBU reunion weekend. As soon as I can write/talk/think about it without getting all teary-eyed and sappy. That place and those people…they have my heart!)
So anyways, that is the short story of our lives these days – not only did we move, but we have been constantly on the move! Which, I’m starting to fully accept, is just the way I like it. I can sleep when I’m dead, right? So for now…I’m going to ZUMBA! After I finish this edamame hummus, of course.

I see you didn’t toss your ability to write into the trash/return pile at Bed Bath and Beyond. Very nice. Now write some more.
